Coming from a single parent family I found the prospect of going to University especially challenging, yet especially rewarding too.  I am 18 years old and was very surprised that I had managed to get my first choice- to go to the University of Manchester- my hard work had paid off. I will always be grateful and remember the John Moran Trust as the award will be so useful.

For my A- Levels I took Chemistry, Biology and P.E, at St. Edward's College. I also did English literature at As level.

For me, Manchester will not be too far from home and the city will provide a dynamic social and sporting environment. I particularly chose this university for its high reputation. I chose to study optometry after enjoying work experience at my local opticians- I have always loved and been best at science subjects.

Accommodation is expensive for me and the funds from the trust will help me immensely, it will allow me to concentrate fully on my studying .

I believed what the John Moran Trust does is so valuable to so many people, thank you.

Sadly this student, an only child from a single parent family, returned home to care for her father who has Alzheimers.  She is hoping to return to her studies at some point in the future.
